Out and about
in CRETE

This is not the usual eclectic collection of pictures found in other galleries here. These pictures are all from the Botanical Park of Crete, situated about 6Km south of Fournes in western Crete.

It’s a fascinating place with its own microclimate where plant species from around the world all grow in open conditions, i.e. without greenhouses or artificial shelter.

Covering about 200,000 m2 the park was created by a local family after the area was devastated by the catastrophic fires of 2003.

Many pictures are without captions because we don’t know what the plants are [with one or two obvious exceptions] and were more interested in taking pictures than making notes. Mainly, we just loved the colours.  On our next visit ..........
